2012 has been a year full of emotion and pride.

This year, we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of our partnership with sesame growers in Mali.

Ten years ago, our sesame seeds and our oil were awarded Organic Fair Trade certification. This was a key milestone for us, after the launch circa 1985 of the first organic supply chain in west Africa by Mr Emile Noël, the founder of Huilerie Emile Noël.?

Our long-standing commitment to faire-trade supply chains yields a win-win partnership with local producers. For Emile Noël, it means a supply of high-quality tropical seeds; and for local growers, a decent and enduring income.

In August, our Malian partners visited Huilerie Emile Noël, thus enabling us to celebrate the occasion in appropriate style and to review our work in Mali:

• Every year, we crush 1,200 tons of sesame seeds at our mill.?

• In southern Mali, 9,500 producers in 173 villages are now part of the project. They come from the areas of Koulikoro, Kolokani, Banamba and Sirakorola.

• The direct consequences of this supply chain’s development are: measures to fight desertification (creation of 20 nurseries), a restricted rural exodus, improved schooling of children, and better harnessing of agronomic know-how.

And 10 years is just the beginning!

The partnership will be further strengthened by expanding the total area under production.

Celebrate this anniversary with us and discover in organic stores (see our “Finding a Stockist” section) our special edition Emile Noël Organic Sesame Oil in the colours of Africa – it’s flavourful and fair!
