Recognised by health professionals

Soon after sunflower, demand prompted Emile Noël to also offer organic sesame oil. His pioneering organic venture and the quality of his traditional virgin oils earned him the support of eminent health professionals such as Dr Catherine Kousmine. In the early 1980s, this specialist on the link between diet and health strongly opposed the refined oils manufactured by the food industry. In contrast, she highlighted the nutritional virtues of organic virgin sunflower oil obtained artisanally – a health food only sold by Huilerie Emile Noël in France. “At her lectures, Dr Kousmine insisted that ‘Father Christmas’ should sit next to her!” laughs Emile Noël, his eyes gleaming with pride. “We simply made natural, quality oils. We didn’t expect so many plaudits to do with health.”

Over the years, the benefits of these virgin, first cold pressed oils have been consistently emphasised by health and nutrition professionals. To even better satisfy this specific demand, Emile Noël developed a blend of five oils: sunflower, sesame, safflower, pumpkin and wheatgerm. How did he get such a brilliant idea? “It happened by accident!” says the founder: “While filling a tank, I mistakenly mixed pumpkin seed oil with sesame seed oil – a disaster, because sesame oil was very expensive. So we had the idea of adding sunflower oil and wheatgerm oil to get a balanced blend, and Equilhuil was a big success! That encouraged us to explore other oil blends, which nowadays are scientifically calculated by our laboratory.” These oil cocktails, offering the ideal ratio of Omega 6 and Omega 3 fatty acids, perfectly fit nutritionists’ recommendations!
